New bedroom

August 18th, 2008

I’ve finally gotten around to taking pictures of our bedroom. I’m in love with the way it turned out! There’s still a few things I’d like to get (1 being a big flat screen over the dresser!), but I’m very content. I am crazy about our new mattress. I seriously have to recommend USMattress to anyone who needs a new mattress and doesn’t mind waiting a couple of weeks. Go out and find the mattress you want, then look for it on their website and they are pretty much guaranteed to have it. It’s crazy how much money we saved.

Maybe tomorrow hurricane Fay will give me a day off and I’ll be able to write more. I’ll leave you with pictures!

I’m really trying to shine here, I’m really trying.

I ‘m going to get my hair colored today!! I’ve never really said that and gotten excited. When you work in a salon, you definitely take for granted how often you’re able to get your hair colored. I’ve been keeping up with it myself, but it’s definitely not the same. I LOVE people doing my hair, it’s such a calming and relaxing experience. My at home pedicures aren’t really doing the job either. There’s just something about having somebody else scrub the dead skin off your feet! I also just love being in a salon. Some days I miss the smell of hair dye and rotten egg perms, so I think about going back. . .but then I realize I don’t actually miss it. I don’t really miss my first client on a Saturday AM just not showing up, or the drama that ensues working around a bunch of other women, or people making you cry because they wanted to look like Angelina Jolie but for some reason they still look like themselves. Uck. I don’t miss that at all! It was fun though. I miss being around people, and hearing them say I’m the only one they trust with their hair. There’s a lot of power that comes with chopping away at someone’s hair. They need complete trust in you. I think it was too much power for me, along with too much worry. I didn’t really want this to become a post about my past career, but I guess it is what it is.

We are starting the Extreme Fat Smash Diet tomorrow. Our cruise is 4 weeks away and this is a 3 week crash diet. Yeah, yeah, I know that slow weight loss and long term healthy choices is the best way to a healthy body, but we’re looking to drop some pounds now without our body absolutely hating us. It’s a healthy “crash diet”, the only thing I’m worried about is the amount of calories. They might be okay for me, but I think it might be too little for Kevin. We will just have to add in a couple extra things for him. We did the non-extreme Fat Smash Diet before and Kevin lost about 22lbs on it. I’m sure any weight we actually lose in the next 4 weeks will be gained right back on our cruise, but at least we’ll look good doing it! After the cruise, I’d like to give the regular Fat Smash another chance. It was a really good, healthy eating plan. It’s easier for me to have a guide to losing weight. I know the principles of losing weight. . . eat less, exercise more. . . but when I can’t seem to follow that simple rule, it’s nice to have a plan infront of me!

Toxins and pollutants, oh my!

August 1st, 2008

So, in my quest to healthify and eco-fy my life as much as possible, I’ve switched over to organic house cleaners. It’s funny, after studying all the nasty toxic chemicals in most cleaners. . . I tried to find what some of the ingredients were in mine and found that there were no ingredients. No ingredients? Is it made out of water?  I didn’t really understand. How can they not tell you the ingredients? Kevin has been having these rashes on his skin that will go away with medicine and then come back a couple of days later. The dermatologist told him to stop using fabric softeners. As it was, we were using ALL pure detergent which is hypoallergenic and free from perfumes and dyes, and also fabric softener free of the same things. Upon reading, I’ve found almost all fabric softeners are full of junk. Here is a great article about some of the issues concerning dryer sheets/fabric softeners. The new detergent I bought contains a soy based fabric softener in it. I was reluctant about using these other products, because they aren’t quite as convenient to buy but I did find most of the ones I was wanting on Drugstore.com. Most of them were on sale and it was free shipping! Can’t beat that. Now we just need to get a huge grocery store that sells only organic foods, and I’ll be one happy. . .clean feeling girl!
